Coming Soon...

Sarah Turton’s second outing, the novel, Aporia, due for general release October 11th 2009, takes a kaleidoscopic view at the earth and its occupants. Often humorous and at times bone chilling and shocking, it reaches into the darkest corners of human nature. This myth making journey is told through the story of Eala traversing timeless dimensions and space, to the inner landscapes of philosophical theories held against daily life wisdom. This fast paced and innovative tale is alluring and compelling, simple to read, long to forget. Deeply philosophical, a process of naming things as they are, this is pain, loneliness, liberty and joy, a new perspective.

present winners and a Bridge between the Night

Over the last month something strange has happened in relation to my thoughts about my blog and I find myself in a familiar position.

I started this blog, initially, after much coercian from my hubby Szy, as a way to keep fit between anything else I was working on.

Vague thoughts about a book, things I have written, connections to other pieces, drafts that never get posted, pulled back for a bit of work, endings and beginnings scribbled in notebooks.
The thought crystallises in the moment that I am reading Karen's blog (keeping Secrets). She has written a rather lovely comment about how much she enjoyed my poem 'A Bridge between the Night' and suddenly I realise that, that's it. It is the focus for my next book and everything I have been writing in my jotted scribblings in the past months moves around that point.

Familiar ground, as in the past six months my focus has been on writing two other books, 'Woman with Men' and a fantasy story with Szy. These are both about half finished in draft form and I have watched them much as one watches a horse race to see which one finishes first. But, as happened with 'Beyond the Lemon Tree', what I find, is that while my attention is diverted, I have written something else quite unexpected and unplanned. I don't know if this is a dyslexic thing? My ed psyche told me at my evaluation to remember to doodle, apparently dyslexics work better, listen better and are generally more focused when their concentration is partly diverted elsewhere. Life is full of contradictions!!

I think this explains my silence over the last week or so. As I came to realise that this book is finished, I came to understand that in a sense the idea around this blog has come to an end.

So I feel sad, in a way, something is ending and happy at the same time, something is beginning.

Now, I need to spend the next month editing and revising, pulling together all the pieces into a whole and writing some press pieces, ready for the books launch in October. Yes I know it's only May!!

After that I plan to take a bit of a holiday. So I will be away for a month or so.

I have created a new blog, Purple Shaggy Cows, my muses whispered it, I have no idea why. Some of you may have noticed it and my plan is to make this my new main blog. I dont know what it's going to be but I hope you will join me for the journey.) I will also be updating posts on 'Woman with Men.'

I want to give a heart felt thanks to all of you who have commented, followed, supported, inspired, stopped by to read and generally made me feel so welcome in blogland. I have so enjoyed reading your blogs and getting to know you and I look forward finding out more about you all in the future. I am greatly inspired by the diversity and quality of talent in this discovered world.

I also want to thank my hubby Szymon Debicki for all his help and support and for listening to all my drafts pre-posting and always being honest about what he thinks and offering suggestions or just enjoying.

So this leaves me only to announce the winners of my birthday present giveaway -

Drum roll please.....

Sleeping Babes

A grey morning
and I berate,
should
have caught
the washing.

The missed
heartbeat,
of looking
on a sleeping
child.

And they
are still
and silent,
unusually.

For a
second,
all is magic,
in that
moment of full
love.

Until that
desire,
to wake them
up,
to check
they are just
sleeping.

The fear
creeps in.

And it begins,
with a touch
to the forehead,
a little cold,
just a check
under the neck.

And they flick
and twitch
and there
is relief
and peace.

But now they
are awake
and you should
have let
them sleep.

The Muses

Soft strain,
insistent beat,
just out of reach,
the chop
of the knife,
slicing,
through onion.

A clashing
call,
a jolt
through
entered sleep,
pulse
and drum,
the rush
to the pen.

Air ripe on my
nose
and any pen
will do,
grab red
exhaustion,
and painting
is the hardest.

Focus, focus,
finish, finish.

World is gone,
claws leave me,
girls scream,
nappy changes,
straddle the
world divide.

Pulling they
Grab me
inside.

Sausages sizzle,
must turn,
smell of burn,
end of page,
need another one,
almost done.

Fat spatters
over paper,
they have had
me for days,
and dishes
piling in the sink.

Sea soothes me,
then,
pull and drag
brings
Them again.

The girls rush
at waves,
I am behind,
all hands
and fear,
for the pull
Of tides.

They jump
into rock
pools,
soaking trousers
and bums.

Sometimes,
kept at bay,
driving through
country lanes,
gorse
pushes out the
smell of coconut,
sun edges across
pallid skin.

I drive,
no hands
no pen,
I will remember,
remember,
Just recall it,
over and over.

And then...

silence,

tidy the home,
come back
to order,
time with girls
and all is gloss,
like it never was.

Dinners of beans,
sausage and rice
fade into
Chinese Lemon
Chicken delights.

A sleepwalker
through the night,
an often
repeated phrase
of my dad,
that I walk
around with my
eyes closed,
a stranger
to the light.

A big thank you to Old Knudsen for asking me about 'The Muses' and inspiring this piece.

Happy rememberance.
